More Yami BULLS..... 5 Years, 1 Month ago
Well once again the R* has a sticking valve. So I went to my local Yami 'stealership' to talk to them about it. Told them I want this on record..AGAIN.. They brought the head guy up to talk to me. He say's Yamaha is starting to hear about this. lol Told me the same old crap.. cant be the bike must be how you drive it. Yami wants you to use the full extent of the R.P.M.'s
I told him , then why did I buy a "cruiser". guess I should have bought a crotch rocket! After I explained that I dont baby it, it does get ridden hard most of the time, he started about the 4 qt. oil thing. I told him thats all I put in. Then the 87 octane.. etc. etc. Then told me the fix was the 'ring free'. I asked him what do kaw and suzuki tell you to put in their bikes every couple tanks to keep them running? He couldnt comment. Anyway, I went to the back to get the bottle of ring free... price 12.95 for 12 ozs. When he rang it up it was 16.95.. recent increase in price! I bought blew up. Told them they have a defective engine part and when everybody starts to find out about it.. they raise the price of the "quick fix"! well, he sold it to me ..old price.. and I'm gonna try this once, tryed all the others. sorry bout' the rant but it really pisses me off. Took my blood pressure pill ...all is good. But I think we should get our pitchforks and head for Yami headquarters!

Just as I suspected.

Build in a defect and then sell an on-going fix.

If you've got the oil 'fix' in hand then try leaning it out a bit.

"tryed all the others" .... are you saying that MMO or Seafoam or whatever did not temporarily fix it last time?

Bike is all stock ..'cept the pipes. was trying to get away with gas treatment..NO shock so I could run the synth oil ..which is new, a little longer. Probably is a little lean. Got a little 'spark knock' sometimes at takeoff since I put the pipes on. Gonna remedy that this weekend. Will pull the carb, give it a good cleaning, back the PMS out a hair and see what happens. Yea doc , the others fixed it , but I wanna see if this stuff is as good as they say. just want more ammo I can throw at yami when I find out this stuff doesnt work any better than the others at 3 bucks a bottle.

Sounds like with this new 'position' from Yamaha they were getting tired of fixing the problem for free and now are going to charge customers to fix the design problem.

What a scam.

BR, here's something to chew on. This was my personal experience, so do with it what you please.
Had my bike dyno'd about a month ago. She was stock with the exception of the pipes, a barons manifold, and K&N filter , AIS removed (doesn't sound all that stock when I'm reading it, but I hadn't changed the airbox or jetting).
Bike ran good, but the dyno showed that it was running RICH with the stock jetting above 2500 rpms. So maybe you're suffering the same issues I was having. I'm just trying to throw out an idea or two, hoping it will help.BB

I thought I would be running rich. but with that spark knock, that started immediatly after I installed the pipes.. wouldnt that be a sign of ..to lean?.. you guys tell me. also forgot, AIS is removed.

Funny, as on the dyno (again) up to about 1800 rpms(from idle), mine was LEAN, optimal at 2500, rich there out. These were the findings on mine , yours could be different, just throwing out thoughts.

BB did you do anything to get it better than that? I have a 06 midnight
and it is bone stock..just over 800 miles. Do alot of Road* get the sticky
valves or rings and at what kind of mileage does this start to happen?
I'm starting to get very worried was looking for alot of trouble free miles
from my baby.
