Heat 2 Years, 4 Months ago
In anticipation of the summer heat that comes here in California's central valley, I'd like to start planning (and saving) for preparing my R* for 100° + temps. I'm thinking it'd be beneficial to put an oil cooler on it. I found a picture of one that doesn't look too bad to me (from RSC member TallTxn44's photo collection)... click here to see it. Anyone know what brand it is? I'd contact TallTxn44 regarding this, but I see he hasn't logged onto the RSC since June of '09, and I think he sold his R*.

Thanks,

:-DD.

Don't really see the gain with it, if your running down the road a 40mph, the engine will not overheat. If your in a parade, or traffic jam going 2mph, the cooler won't help much as it has no air flow to cool the oil with.....

Yeah I see your point... I just remember sitting on a 2mph freeway for 30-40 minutes last summer at about 110° heat... I guess runnin synthetic oil is probably my best defense, huh? Any thoughts regarding if I'm in this situation again?

wimmer machine

that image you linked to is ~$450 + hoses & shipping to install

there are some cheaper units and lee (wimmer) says the evo 88 filter adapter should fit (i assume it's an interchangeable filter part# for ours)... that part is on page 23, price sheet is easy, just clik the part # on the page.

thats his super sucker intake on my 03

IMHO if you are stock motor you don't need it. The only time I overheated was in a parade and that was just the clutch. 2mph will not get enough air to cool the oil anyways. just split lanes

I really want to take the one off my 'Liner. That idea went over like a lead balloon on the 'Liner Delphi forum. BB

Get a Bucks cooler. Lots of surface area to help dissipate heat when your going slow. That's the only time you need a cooler. But none of them are going to keep things as cool as when your rolling along. Nature of air cooled motors. My .00002 cents anyway.
