It also says what it is on the master cylinder cap. I think is DOT 4.

Pretty sure you want to use only DOT 4 and I use DOT 4 Synthetic. 4 is better than 3 don't mix them.

Don't ask how I know, but Dot 5 Silicone does not play well with the others. So do not mix them!

It's because brake fluid attracts moisture. And it doesn't hurt to completley change out all of your old brake fluid either, for the same reason as above, and other crud does find its way in there. I don't know what the recommended change intervals are thoguh.

Re:Brake fluid 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I just change it when it's convenient, at least every Pad change. But every 2 years rings a bell. Keeps the rust out of the lines on the inside, and corrosion.

Yea I did hear that about DOT 5 I'll stick with 4. Good Nuff. I asked mechanic about DOT 5 and I can't recall why but they said don't do it. I think ya had to like seriously flush the system almost beyond anyone's capability. Mentioning all kinds of flushing fluids and dry times and na na na na na don't do it.

Soon, as I got DOT 5 in........ I'd pop a small leak where only DOT 4 was available.
