My Kongs 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Well, it's been a long time since I've posted on here. I finished my kong bar install last Aug., but wanted to live with them for a while before I gave my opinion. After several months of commuter riding on the interstate, curve carving in the Appalachian Mountains and stop and go riding on the strip I can say with confidence...I love them.

I won't lie, I was worried when I first finished the work. It took a few adjustments to get them where I wanted them. Then I got them tuned in. It was still a bit awkward, as you can imagine going from a pretty flat (stock) bar to these. Then I got used to them, then I liked them, now I love them. Great comments and lots of turned heads, but the beauty is in the comfort. Once you learn to ride them properly, they are a treat to control that big weight the road star has.

Take a look at my updated sig pic to see it. I did the install right, soldered the new wires and in-the-bar install on everything. SS lines for throttle and clutch. Love my roadie!

The rise is 16", which puts my hands right at shoulder level. I wouldn't want to go much higher if you want to ride comfortably on a long haul.

Looking good! How has it affected your ride?

I understand the comfort level goes way up as the apes take the strain off your back.

What was your total cost with bars, cables, risers, etc?

It rides great, like an armchair. Like I said, it did take some fine tuning. I had it set up parallel with the forks originally, but that laid me back to far and strained my lower back. I adjusted it forward, a bit too far so I started getting neck/shoulder strain. Then I hit the sweet spot...like butta! The leverage it gives you makes handling a big bike like this a WHOLE lot easier. It rides in the mountains (I'm just minutes from "The Snake" in the Appalachian mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway) exponentially better than it did. At slow speeds, you have to be on top of things until you get used to it, but once your comfortable with them it's as easy as the short bars.

As far as cost, with wires, shrink wrap, tape, parts....everything but my time...it came out to around $800. Not a bad investment for the change it makes in the bike.

Bars look good and so does the bike. Glad to hear you're loving the big bars.

Stock risers work fine thats what i used,if you do internal wiring like i did then you need to make a hole in the bottom part of the riser for the wiring to come out.
