Front end Wobble/Shimmy 5 Years ago
Hey Fellas,
I have read about this problem over in the rsr forum, but I noticed my bike doing this on and off since I bought it. When decel. from around 70 or so I let off the throttle all the way, and at around 40 or so the front end shimmies a little. It continues to slow, and the shimmy stops. Any thoughts? Loose front end, lube the neck bearings, or maybe tire pressure??? I didn't notice the wobble last week. Before my road trip for the weekend, I checked the tire pressure and it was 26psi. I bumped it up to 35 and then I noticed the wobble. Any suggestions? Would more pressure make it worse? I figured lower air pressure would make it worse. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like"

1. Tire needs replaced
2. Tire needs balanced
3. fork seals going
4. wheel bearings going
5. low air in tire

Just a guess...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last month

TMK pretty much covered it.

Make sure tire pressure front and back is at least 35 psi.

If it's front stock then they have a habit of getting cupped.

34 psi is probably too low for the rear...try 40 psi and see if that helps...also check the balance...mc tires out of balance are very unforgiving

Hey fellas.
My reading in the forum found two possible causes to the shimmy.
One: the tires may not be aligned front to back. There is a post and a picture where the guy used straight lengths of conduete(spelling) pipe, tied to the back tire and passing by each side of the front tire and he said you could see if the two tires where aligned by the gap on either side of the front tire to the pipes.
Two: there could be worn out swing arm bushings or bearings (I'm not sure what is back there) but lets hope not for obvious reasons!

Ihave a shimmy in my front end at about 35 mph on decal if I relax my grip, only noticed it when I raised the ride hight on the rear ,it used to bottom out 2 up which is most of my riding so I raised it about 10mm,havent looked into any other causes yet,I run 42 rear 36 front
