Re:Pulleys 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I have an '01 that came stock with 33 tooth front pulley. I noticed immediately that the engine lugged in 5th at 50MPH and acceleration was sluggish. In 4th not too bad. I installed a 31 tooth and wow... great off the line power BUT the top end at expressway was revving a bit and mileage went down. Sold the 31 tooth and just bought a 32 tooth for what I figure would be the best all around. Either one you go with will alter the accuracy of the speedo. Mine stock was off 5% and with the 31 was correction factor of 9.5%. Did this with speedo healer box. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

If you want one w/ more teeth, I have a 33 tooth that I'd let go for fairly cheap.

as I understand it the 1600's came with 33 and the 1700's with 32. IMHO everybody could move to one less tooth and benefit. MOst of us live between 0-and 60 with some cruising thrown in. Those of you with bags and wives (not one and the same in case you forgot) may need that extra grunt coming out of the hole anyway. Heck judging by the size of a few of you you might want to move to about 20 teeth!!!

Holy cow, what a reply...... too funny. Would wrapping the belt around the shaft for the pulley qualify? Should equate to a 10 tooth.

yah, well i have an 03
and it rpm's too much down the highway in 5, (more than i would like)
and doesnt get off the line quick enough either,

but i bet if you took a box of primary & secondary gears

or 31 tooth pinion with a taller 5th gear would do....
4th on the oem setup is good for around town to 65-70
but you actually have to drive around boston, never a dull moment...
