BAK question - or stock air box with K&N 2 Years, 3 Months ago
we are looking at a BAK for Tabatha's bike and she asked me if a K&N filter in the stock airbox would give the same performance as the BAK. I didn't know the answer, so does anyone know?

thanks

No , not without help. You can do the poormans BAK (drilling the stock box out with multiple holes and a K&N)and you will get close. Then comes the jetting. BB

cool, thanks BB.

i am about to order a BAK for the lady. She has had to look at her bub jug huggers for a couple months in our room because she didnt have an airbox yet. Her bike will get a makeover during the next couple weeks.

She wants the "Pinstripe" model but the listing says "2008-2010" but I dont think it will work on her bike (05) right?

Look here .... BAK

Must be for FI models. Contact Barons directly and see if they can give you that face plate for the carbed models. Can't hurt to ask. BB

SWEET i saw another one on ebay and put in an offer of 190 with free shipping and it was accepted right away! Guess he had the setting as 'accept offers over X amount'

i probably should have bid lower, but im still stoked. Brand new BAK for 190

changing to a K&N filter in a stock air box is not going to give any additional performance, it's not the filter as much that restricts air flow, but the housing.
The basics to get some more out of this engine would be a better breathing air kit, carb re-jet and after market pipes. And depending upon what yr bike would be the rev limit on the ignition module. If it's a 1600, stock rev limit is aprox 4250rpm's. Doing the 3 mods above, you really need to have a least a 4800 rev limit to squeeze the peak HP from the engine. at this point you have a couple of choices, get a ignition module from a 1700 (4750 rpm rev limit), usually you can find used for about 50 to 75 bucks, or you can go with a Dyna3k (about 230.00 if ya shop around) and set the rev limit to 5k rpm for a 1600 engine, the advantage to the Dyna is that you also have options to change the timing curve. the dyna can be set to 5500 rpm limit for a 1700 engine due to the heavier valve springs, but, you still won't get any performance benefits above 5k any way. Peak tq is aprox between 2200 to 3200 rpm (due to cam design)and peak Hp aprox 4800, 4900rpms
