Vendors - Low Prices, Good Service? 6 Years ago
OK guys, I'm looking to buy some aftermarket stuff for my '06 Road Star and I'm looking for some good vendors. I'm sure there are a few "go to" places on the web as well as a few "avoid at all cost" places. I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences as well as any solid low price sites out there. I'm in SoCal, so an out of state Vendor usually saves me 8% right off the top and can offset increased shipping. I've considered the e-Bay thing, but I'm a little worried about warranty and support on a higher dollar item, unless you guys have some "go to" sellers.

For example, I'm a computer hobbiest and after years of chasing down the lowest prices from here today, gone tomorrow sites, I've settled on using NewEgg.com for 80% of my purchases. They are consistantly low on prices, can be the lowest with sales and specials, but just as important, have great customer service.

First up for me is a set of 3" HK's or Road Burner pipes. And maybe a BAK to go on at the same time. I've seen prices vary on the HK's by over $100!

I've had good service from Phats Performance. Cruiser customizing sometimes has lower prices but you never know when you will get your stuff. So looking for the lowest price isn't always on my priority list. Look at the "Cool links" on the front page here.

Hey Trex,
One of my favorites is Dennis Kirk. Quick service and decent prices; if your order is placed by 2pm it ships out the same day. When I order from them I usually get it within 3-4 days. And NO shipping charges on orders over $100. I've been dealing with them for over 10 years with no complaints.

Another place I've checked out on-line but never dealt with yet is Pipe City; so far they seem to have some of the best/cheapest prices on exhaust systems. For example, I've been looking at the Roadhouse 2-into-1 pipe and thier price is $495 (thats cheaper than the "buy it now" prices I've seen on ebay!)and most others want about $560.

Just my two cents worth!

In The Wind,
Aaron

Aaron:

For what it's worth, Hellrisers is getting $479.95 for the Roadhouse Classics 2-1 exhaust.

I'm J&P goldmember(save 10%), doesn't sound like much, but for pipes, airbox, and other big stuff, it makes a difference.BB

Pipe City has low prices and they ship quick. However, be sure of which pipes you want, as they have a 20% restocking fee. I was told by their GM that I could return the pipes - as long as I did not mount them. Needless to say, I was a bit miffed when they told me that I was going to have to pay them $80 to return them.

In all fairness, many of the on-line places have a 20% return fee. Just wish he had been up-front with me in the first place. If so, I would not have ordered them.

Almost everyone I've seen on this site and others has good things to say about Phat Performance Parts. I made my first order over two weeks ago. The exhaust I ordered arrived when expected after being placed on a short back-order, which they informed me of immediately. But, the box was poorly sealed and had come open during shipment and everything but the pipes had disappeared from the box. Monday I called and they were going to "expedite" shipment of the mounting hardware and told to expect it this past Thursday. Saturday now, no hardware.

I'm also missing the dyno that was in the box, even though during my original conversation on the phone with them when I realized the hardware was missing I was told the exhaust was shipped from the manufacturer....so, it wasn't really their fault the package was poorly wrapped. Only to find out that the dyno was also in the same box as the exhaust, so something there isn't quite kosher.

Maybe a one off, and things happen during shipment, but getting a bit annoyed with them, the wait, and the change in story.

Hey buck

If they're giving you the run around and you're not happy with them give your future business to another vendor. Lot's of them out there.
