What Bars for Leaning back??? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
This question has probabley already been asked, but here it goes anyways...
Ok, guys, quick question, I am looking for some handlebars that will let me lean back on my backrest better, I bought some 10" apes, but they dont pull back anymore than what I have now, which is stock bars on 4" risers. They only lift up not toward me. What do yall think is the best bars to get to be able to lean back more but stay comfortable?

There are many different styles that will get you back where you want. It really depends on the look you are going after. Your best bet is probably to get someone to help you and sit on the bike where you want to be and have your helper measure the amount of rise, pullback, and width you are looking for. Personally 16" apes are the most comfortable. I know that's not much help. Good luck!

+3 on the apes. You can always lean them back to sit further into the backrest.

Went with Barrons risers. I'm not into the apes. The ones I put on are 2-3" setback and no rise. The suggestion about having a friend measure what you need while you sit on the bike is very good advice. Remember if you go very far ack or up, new brake lines itc. will be necessary. Wiht the Barrons I didn't have to change any of that out. Different strokes for different folks.

You might try leaning the bars to the rear a bit. loosen the riser clamps a bit, reposition the bar and retighten the clamps. Bars are normally installed in line with the struts, but they don't have to be.

I wonder if there are any other risers that would bring my bars back further? I have 4.5" riser now, I think. I seen a pair of 5.5" risers on ebay, dont know if just 1 inch would make a difference.

You could use the risers you have and get some bars with more pullback than stock such as Starbars, or Nostalgia Bars...

One of these guys has some upside down beach bars on big risers, they have to be far enough back and they look pretty damn cool, too. BTW my right side up beach bars are pretty good for that, too.

Hi'ya ghostrider....

I would also have to vote for beach bars. I use the Nostalgia bar on stock risers. I can lean back pretty good into the seat. I used to use a backrest when I had the stock seat but kinda got used to running without it now. Running around town isn't as much of a problem as you'd think. Long trips are a breeze as there's usually a big ole bag of clothes behind you to lean into. I'm 6'2" with long arms which would make a difference too.

One last thought. Moving the floorboards forward a few inches kinda forces you to lean back as well. Something to think about.
