suspension link bearings ? 5 Years ago
I'm am considering purchasing a Baron's lowering link and I am trying to source the bearings somewhere other than the Stealership.
Does anyone have the actual bearing make and designation. I have the Yamaha part numbers but that doesn't help me.
Does anyone know anything that might help?

Thanks

hey poke,
i bought dogbones from Pacific coast star and a 1250 lb. progressive spring. I also did a seat swap with them. Overall i dropped the bike about 2" and the seat a little more. LOVE IT! sits nice and low and the progressive spring really stiffens up to keep from bottoming out even 2 up. I didn't want to go to an aluminum knuckle. I changed the whole thing by myself, no prob....
j

oops, forgot...moved the floorboards 2" forward with a 5 degree increase...comfy

Post edited by: fourjp, at: 2007/05/08 22:53

Hey JP,
I got a heck of a deal on a Barons spring and shock assembly today, and the way I understand it the Barons lowering link provides a nice stable geometry. I figure I might as well go ahead and take the plunge on the link. All of these parts have been designed to work together. This way if I don't like it I can sell it as a Barons kit. Maybe get my money back that way.
However, I am not opposed to saving as much money as possible and the dealership is no place for that.

I agree with you onthe dealerships for sure....4.00 each more on spark plugs?
I would think any shop should have a bearing press and you could use the current ones. Otherwise i am stumped on the bearings.
After working on mine, i can't see the geometry advantage.
One thing about heavy springs..they are stiffer all the time , at all settings..progressive springs start soft and then get increasingly stiffer the more they compress..
i put progressive in the front as well..helped a lot

btw..love the look of your bike! I have red river jumbo bags but otherwise identical. Are you happy with how much your bags hold? I may try putting roadliner bags on mine for a better look. I added the front fender bar and a HD springer retro lamp on top of the fender.

Get the number off the bearing and go to a bearing supply house. The R* beargings are nothing special and they should be able to set you up.

On Road Star Riders forum is a guy "Metric Magic" who sells anything you want at a steep discount. He beats the online OEM pricing and will order stuff from Kuryakan etc. I've purchased stuff from him. Just an idea.

Well Doc if I could see the numbers on the bearings that would not be a problem.
I cannot see them, maybe they pressed them in that way on purpose
I really dont want to knock them out of the stock link if I don't have too, I was hoping someone else had already done that, but I guess not. Thanks anyway.
