Someone mentioned a screw and rubber cement in an emergency when you pick up a nail...

After a screw, I'd rather have a cig and go to sleep. What is the rubber cement for? To hold on the chicken feathers??

scotth1116 At $120 for installing a tube you got riped off!! For those of you that have trouble checking pressure and puting in air; there are 90 degree stems for tubless and tubes with 90 degree stems. These are metal stems with nuts that attach to the rim. Do not use rubber mounted stems and do not use a 90 degree attachment added to a straight stem!!

Hey all,
At first this question may seem off topic... but I think it fits the subject at hand... So here goes...

We, as motorcycle riders, are acutely aware of the need to maintain tire pressure...
I personally think it's an important "Vehicle Safety" feature... And, even for cars, I think proper tire pressure is a safety issue...
With that in mind...

How many of you live in States where you have free compressed air available and how many of you live in States where you have to pay to get compresses air...?

BTW: If you live in a State where you get free air, it's because your state laws require the that the service station provides the air for safety reasons...

Florida has no such law and we can expect to pay between fifty cents and a dollar... For air!
(I know Connecticut is one of those states that has the "free air" law...)

Here in Ohio, I used to pay 50 cents for air IF I could find a pump that worked or could get to. Now I carry a Slime Mini Compressor and can check air pressure in the garage before I ride out.

Ironic I didn't think that an air pressure gage could be off by 2 psi. I checked the pressure on the car and they were low so I put more air in the tires bringing them up to 30 psi on my gage. When I checked the senser on the car they were off by 3 psi.

My two cents for the day, not all air gages read the same. Which are the most accurate?

For a long time I used to be into mountain biking, pull into a good bicycle shop and ask the help in there, they are way up on this. The one I bought is lightweight durable and exact. It does presta and schrader valves. It also is at a right angle so it slides right on the rear easily. (So try it on before you buy) Mine also has the feature where it records the measure and you re-set it before each tire. (A +) Keep the range of the gauge close to the specs you run and it will be even more accurate. (One that goes say 0 to 60 will be more accurate than one that reads 0 to 120)

Trust me when I say the Bike people are up on this, it means as much to them as it does us!

And I'll add that the ambient temp has a lots to do with your reading, as the temp changes so does the pressure inside the tire, this is why they always say. COLD.

FWIW and for whatever reason (air density, pressure from altitude, etc.) the altitude you're riding in can affect pressure, too. When I left my 7,000 ASL former home and trailered it down here to sea level, BIG change. I aired them before I left (40 front, 42 back) and checked them when I got here (24 front, 33 back) Used same gauge both times & only two days between measurements. No leaks, because they haven't changed since I got here.

Too nice of a day not to hit the road here in Brooklyn (supposed to hit 50.). (Except, the weekend traffic sux. ) Checked the tire b4 I left, and found they were about 28lbs each. Pumped'em up to 42/42 and went on my way. Had to take it nice and easy. Cagers not used to seeing bikes, snow still melting and lots of salt/sand still on the roads. Thanx for the reminder.

What would it normally cost? Since the tube is probably $10 - $20, labor about 80 - 90 and it took about an hour I just figured that kinda made sense. I didn't like it but at least I was back out riding!
