Engine Oil Drain Bolt 2 Years, 2 Months ago
First off my thoughts are that Yamaha could not have made the oil change procedure any harder. I can't remember from change to change exactly where the drain plugs are, so I always get my lift in the wrong place. Have to let the bike down and move the lift to get to the plugs.
With that said, I have a question regarding the engine oil drain plug. I think I have seen a thread about changing the 17mm engine drain plug to a 14mm magnetic. Is that correct? If so where do I get one, and what do I ask for? A magnetic bolt with 14mm threads? Thanks for your help.

14x1.50 It is a Toyota plug , should be in or near your typical "Help" section of the auto parts stores.

Think the Roadie was bad , you should try changing the oil in the 'Liner. BB

You need a M14 1.50 magnetic bolt available at your auto parts (Pep Boys, AutoZone, Checker Auto, etc.) store. The 14mm is the size of the bolt head, the threads are the same as the 17mm. Be sure to get a packet of crush washers too. You'll need one for each bolt every time you change your oil.

Don't forget the crush washer, it takes a different one. I've had several bikes that were much more difficult to change oil. BOL

I have 35 Lbs in each tire, one if which is a Volkswagen van tire (Rear) I have a Rear MC tire on the front, I put seafoam in my oil, I run a Ben Herr manifold, and I have used the same crush washers 3 oil changes in a row, no leaks. Marines just like to live a life of danger.

I could post my Crush washer re-use secret, but I don't want to cause a stir again.

You guys must live a more charmed life than me. Went to Kragen, Auto Zone, Fastenal, Ace Hardware, and Precision Auto Parts. None of them had the 14mm 1.5 bolt, and at all the places, when I asked about crush washers they looked at me like what is he talking about. Ended up putting the original bolt back in, fortunately had some crush washers I got from Yamaha last oil change. So next oil change I will get to cuss at how hard the bolt is to get out.

sorry to say, got ya both beat. lol and if ya swap bolts alternately crush washer lasts longer too. lol and I know his secret, he turns them over. lol

and I gave up using a lift as well, darn thing just gets in the way for the oil pan, besides, for the case side, on kickstand has a nice lean towards drain
