I can't wait to get some time and get started on the stage 1 mod of my '05. As I mentioned previously, I'll start with removing the rear cones and drilling 6 or 8 1/2" holes and see how it sounds.

In terms of the AIS, I wasn't aware of this either. I read and printed the AIS removal articles from the tech articles. There was an addendum article for '04 but, it looks like my '05 will be the same. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, where do I buy the AIS removal kit?

I have an 08 are the instructions any different?

Just took a quick look (I'm fortunate to have the Roadie stored in the heated warehouse at my office) and the AIS hoses attach to the heads in an entirely different way than '99-'03 or '04. Maybe they are trying to prevent us from removing it?

I did my '08 last summer. It's actually easier than the older models. The head plugs they describe sound like a real bear to get at....On an '08, it's just a matter of "bolts" to remove and replace. Won't take you long at all. Make sure you get a kit for the '08, not older bikes. Good luck

OK, I'm planning to drill the pipes this weekend.

So, should I do it on the bike or take them off. If I take them off, any suggestions for how to hold them securely?

How many of you drilled them on the bike and then took them off to clean them out?

Hey, btbeam, so your bike is backfiring now? What year is it? The AIS removal instructions, both '99-'03 and '04 do not match my bike. I have an '05. Also, anybody know where to buy the removal kit?

J&P Cycles will have the removal kit. I did a stage 1 on a bike last year and left the pipes on the bike. When I was done I used a shop vac to suck out any metal particles and it worked out great. Quick and easy.

I WAS SO WRONG!!

After a closer look, my '05 AIS system is exactly as shown in the tech article on the forum. I was looking at the wrong hoses.

So, I'm going to drill and listen but, regardless of backfire, will remove the AIS as per the instructions. I found a kit for like $25 but, not at J&P. They don't seem to have the one for '04 and newer.

Just bought the AIS removal kit from J&P for $32. It was hard to find on their site, had to call. The kit was $22 but, shipping & handling was $10. Highway robbery but, what are you gonna do. It includes the nozzle plates and rubber caps, etc., for everything else. It's all black so, should look fine on the bike.

Say so long to the AIS on the Roadie!!
