I like my Roadie but a few months ago I had it for sale because I really wanted a 'Liner. All it took was a test ride to convince me. I'm over 300 lbs and it popped me up to 110 mph in nothing flat and it handles great. And the prices for used 'Liners are EXCELLENT from what I have seen. Not much more than a similar R*. But I couldn't find a buyer so I'll stick with what I have... for now, and add a few goodies to it.

I've never had a problem 2 up on my Roadie. I'm 220lbs and my son is 185 and we ride the Rockies all the time, from 6000 to 11,000 ft. Anyone who has ever ridden to the Eisenhower Tunnel on I70 knows what I am talking about. Sure the Liner has more power, but I have no problem with the Roadie's power. Of course, I have looked at a Boss Hoss!! Why mess around.

I kind of think you need to get what you like and want to ride. Liners are great bikes, so are Road Stars.

I just got a liner to go two up on with my wife. My Road Star always did well two up so thats not a condemnation of my Road Star at all. I wanted the bigger engine and when I test drove the liner it was evident that the center of gravity is lower, which is one of my complaints for my Road Star going two up.

But I don't plan to do much more than grips, exhaust and air kit replacement on the liner. Its really going to remain mostly stock.

I kept the Road Star because I want to chop and rake it. And parts availability is so much better. Also, its my third Road Star and I feel like I know every nut and bolt on it. So am confident knowing both what I have done in the past to Roadies and what I plan to do on this one.

I like them both. A lot. My buying a liner was more a reflection of what I wanted to do with it than anything else. They are both really great bikes.

I am considering another bike and think it will be a Royal Star Venture. They are going for cheap used just like the R* and for the Long Cross Country Tour's, It should be quite nice. For right now I think our limit is 500 to 600 miles on the R* 2up. I personally think I could go coast to coast but the wife doesn't think so And were new to the Big Bike cruising so it's baby steps together. I don't want to turn her off to the rides. She really enjoyes it so far and I have made many improvements to giver more comfort on the rides. But the Rodie is a cruiser and not a touring bike so I think there will be 2 bikes (Yamahas) in the stable soon I have a 60 mile comute daily to and frome work and the R* is just the ticket to get me there and back with a smile on my face. Seen some Srtats and RdLiners listed locally with good prices and they are nice looking bikes to boot. man if I had the Cash I would have one of everything mentioned here. Well theres to dreaming!!!!!!!!!

well we all were asking yamaha to make a bike with a wider tire, more performance and handling this is what they made it does handle nice. the tires wearing out a bit less mileage gives you options to take it easy to keep mileage up or get used to changing tires.. or go to the darkside (CT's) a little difference in riding style but you get used to it.. prelli is making a tire but not enough reviews on the night dragon yet to see what kind of mileage it will give.
I have a 09 strat that is just waiting for me to be totally better to get back on the road completely and ride like the old days.. gives me time to get simple stuff lined up and added, roadhouse, ultimate, fairing.. all the bells this time hopefully.
Like some have posted the bike feels light compared to the extra power and handling.
good luck with you choice.

I really like the liner, I just think the additional size and power is a good idea for me. Im 6'5 and about 280 and just think it will fit me better, had the venture last year and traded for a different look and got a great deal on my 05 R If I could get about the same deal again I would do it again, I just dont form long term bonds with many bikes its probably a finacial curse.

I started with the Roadie and added an '07 Venture. The Venture is the first bike that I've owned that I can ride fill-up to fill-up comfortably. And power to spare!
