I use 4 quarts as a genral rule. Then I do the oil check ritual. By the way did you do the ritual? If you don't do it right it will read high. And they are not 100% accurate so as a genral standerd I only use 4 quarts. I don't like that you can't just check your oil you have to go for a 15 min. Ride and then leave the bike level and idleing for 30 sec. Kill the engine pull the seat. Stand the bike back up level then check the oil. There is a video on youtube that has a cut away that shows what happens when you don't do it right.....lol.... I feel like someone at yamaha gets a kick out of this song and dance

You guys are not reading what he said!!!

He stated that he forgot to drain ALL THE OIL OUT!!!! It has nothing to do with adding 4qts everytime. It has to do with making sure you remember there are 2 plugs and you must drain both!!!!!
Lesson learned I'm sure.

I read it, but what I am saying is forget even trying to do the "Yamaha Oil Level Reading Dance" and just fill and forget til it needs changing. As to not completely draining the oil, well Ferg isn't the first to do that. Changing the oil and forgetting to change the filter first happens sometimes too!!
