Hey blackroadie

I suppose it could be coincidense that 2 dealers came up with 3.1 qts. I mean that seriously. A sample of 2 proves nothing. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Statistically it would not be likely that two dealers would come up with that same '3.1' number.

Has to be more to it than that.

Maybe they frequent the same forums.

If you put more than about 3 1/2 Quarts in mine it will piss it back out. The last 2 oil changes I only put in 3 1/4. As for the SVS its all models of the R* not just 1700's. And I hate to say that it is caused by poor quality controll at Yamaha. Its just like the knock. Had a friend that had a new R* that had the knock right off the stealer floor. It took about 6 months but a yammi rep finaly fixed it with new timeing gears and some synth oil. "and a lawyer". Mine took a 6 mm ream and leaner jets to fix my svs. when it started it had less than 10k miles. I have talked to another owner that know has a new strato "thanks to his bro beeing an lawyer" after
yami took back his "NEW with less than 3k mile R* had svs from the 1st week he bought it" (the stealers attempted fix was to put a larger jet in and add ring free) Needless to say it did not work. But he does like his new stratoliner.

The moral of this is " F$#(k the stealers and yami Service info". The info you need to make your R* run its best is hear on this site. Research and do your own work or find a independant mech.

Whats funny is... when I brought up the 'svs' issue to the 'man' at Yami's 800 number, ..he said,("with a real cocky attitude&quot... where'd you hear that? on the internet?..lol. So I know THIS site is the one probably pissing off Yami HQ for all those .."rumors".. about SVS floating around out there. Anytime you google anything about svs, or sticky valve, or recall,.. ROADSTAR CLINIC is usually the first few sites that pop up. keep up the good work people.

Hey Bama

Unless you changed something on the bike you should be able to put in more than 3 1/2. Are you draining both plugs? How much oil are you getting out when you drain it? Are you putting in 2 qts, run it for a few seconds, and add the rest?

I always drain both plugs and there has been no mods to the bike that should cause it. It just does not like more than about 3 1/2 Qts. The yami stealer has not been able to get it to keep in more than 3 1/2 also.

Musky they said it could be the yami techs have been trying it out but they heard nothing of a new memo ....He looked while I was standing there just the same one dated 2/16/07...concerning poor engine performance.....also said owners dont receive tech memos to the stealer.....all we will get is safety related memos.I asked them to listen to the tech for any word of what they may be doing toward solving this problem.....Coug

Hey Coug

Thanks for checking up on it. Guess it's wait and see now. If it is a test with certain dealers I won't be surprised if Yami drops it before they publicly make bigger fools out of them selves. But then again I won't be surprised if they go ahead and send it to the dealers.
