Re:Took off the windshield ?? 2 Years, 1 Month ago
After reading this thread last week I thought to myself what the hell I'll try it again even though the last time I tried it I didn't last ten minutes before I went and put my shield back on and I am really enjoying not having the shield on. The bike looks great and I have gotten used to the wind. I commute 80 miles round trip vertually everyday mostly speeds above 65 on the highway but its really not bad. Guess I am not as big of a wuss as I thought Wifw did say she didn't like riding without it so when she is with me it will go back on,just makes ride more enjoyable if she is happy when she is behind me

It's so funny that you posted this. I took my windshield off for the first time a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing! I got my bike last year and never really rode a bike without a windshield. Not only did I get a few good smacks in the face from bugs (and it's not even bug season yet!) but I didn't tighten my half-shell helmet enough and it seemed like it was hovering an inch over my head in the hurricane force wind! It felt like my helmet was actually slowing me down! I'm definitely putting the windshield back on!

I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car.

Just put one on my 07 for the first time..have always ridden without one. Not sure I'm a big fan of it yet but going out of state the end of the month figured we'd try it..

You will notice a major difference with it on as far as the beating you take without it goes. I like the protection I get with it but am really enjoying the performance of not having it.

The buffeting was so bad on my R* with tall windscreen tha it shook my head/helmet enough at 60mph to blur my vision but " Bucks Lowers " took care of that problem ,cost approx $80 and 20 mins to install.

I love the way the roadie looks without the shield... real old school...
But, I'm with the rest of y'all...
If I go any more than the next town over (even on US-1), I gotta have a shield...
I get too beat up from my cheeks flapping so hard that my ears ache and my misses hands get too tired from haning on for dear life... (While her legs are flapping in the wind...)
Yep! Lowers are next!
BTW: When I ride with a shield and a full face... I get knocked around quit a bit... until I stick my head above windshield and then it smoothes out...

Just finished a 600 mile run in 48 hours yesterday all over Ohio. Winds up to 35 mph, monsoon rains in waves, temps from 83 one day to 50 48 hrs. later. Without the windshield I would have been absolutely miserable. I usually ride in nice weather without one.

I've only ever driven with a windshield once. My head got beat up bad by the wind coming off and around it, that I've never driven with one since. I don't know if it had to be taller or lower, but it was way worse than driving with no windshield.

I'm with you on this, had one on my old C50 for 2 days, it beat the hell out of me, took it off, now I had a fairing on my R* until yesterday the hole side broke off it when it hit the drive way so in the morning I'll be heading to work again without any thing infront of me..L liked my fairing..but windshields, they're for cars!..lol corse its gonna be 32 when I head out for work..I may change my mind!

G,day from Oz. I'm surprised you blokes would consider riding without a windshield. Don't you have locusts and other large winged creatures over there that you can do without getting smacked with? I also once thought it would be a good idea to take the screen of and ride to Moree. That lasted about half an hour until I hit a swarm of bees. Bloody couldn't see for honey. I live where you blokes would probably call the outback and along with insects of one description or other and gravel thrown up by road trains you also get suicidal birds, and worst of all roos (kangaroos). Not that a screen would help you out with a roo. Anyway my five cents worth doesn't much help you blokes over there but I thought I'd just have a chat anyway. I'll get around to introducing myself when I get a descent picture of my 99 Star.
