Tach question 2 Years, 1 Month ago
I just picked up a tach off of eBay and I have a wiring question.
It has 4 wires, 1 goes to the - terminal on the front(?) coil.
1 is ground.
1 says go to lamp on.
1 says go to ignition on or power.

Now I don't have a fuel pump so can I use the ground and power connection that went to the fuel pump for my power and ground?
Also where do I hook up the wire that says to go to lamp on.

For those interested here is the tach I got.

I will let others chime in on the tech stuff but great deal on the tach. Might have to pick one up for myself.

Thanks.
It seems to be a solid built tach, the product label says it's from Custom Chrome.
I'll let you know how it works after it's installed.

you could hook the lamp up on the same connection as power

reason they give you lamp wire is if you have dimmer switch with rest of gauges - it would dim with them

Thanks Sloth, looks like a pretty simple install.
Now if UPS would get here with my new seat I can ride down to the parts store and get some shrink tubing and get this done. Geez this is turning into a different bike this year. New seat, maxflo, pumpless, tach, iso grips, and more to come (I hope).

Goody that is the same price I paid with no shipping costs.

Well except for almost wiring the tach to the wrong coil, it was a real easy install.
I was able to use the old fuel pump connector to run the power, light, and ground wires.
Now for the next group of projects.

Does it matter which coil it goes to?
