Mustache conversion 3 Years, 5 Months ago
I know that there have been threads on replacing the rear light mustache, but has anyone had any luck in simply cutting off the downturn part and attaching the lights to the stubs?

funny you bring that up. i've been looking for a curved rear light bar. my 04 has the straight type. after lowering my bags, i think the "mustache" type might look better. want to trade ?

Sounds like a winner to me. Think there would be any problem between model year.

I tried that! Did not work well. I replaced the whole business with a couple of bullet type directionals that I mounted right on the fender. Drilled a couple of holes, wired them up. Took apart my stock Plate holder and made my plate "lay down", got the wires under the fender (rather than poking out through to feed the directionals). I like it a LOT better!

you could consider putting on a pair of a recent royal star brackets.
They attach on each side of the rear light without any loop. You'll need two or four holes in the fender I think, and it's not a really cheap mod.

go here: http://www.yamahasportscenter.com/ or here: http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/
look for the flasher lights of a 2007 royal star (any xvz1300 model will do) and you'll get an idea of how they look.

I believe the mounting holes on the fenders are different.

Thought of doing the mustache thing this past winter. Took'em apart but could not figure out any mod short of ditching them entirely.
