This is the first time I have heard of a sending unit failing in this manner.

are u sure its not a nut from the cap?

is the float laying on bottom of tank, or just sitting there?

Re:Rattle in tank??? 2 Years ago
There is a little "lock" washer on the rod that holds it on the assy. If that washer came off... then that's what happens. Drain the tank, and you should be able to fish the parts out after removing the sending unit. You should have :the sending unit, float w/ rod, washer, "lock"washer. The lock washer looks like a really tiny type of washer that holds wheels on axles like you find on grills, wagons, etc. Make sense? Mine was backing off the rod, but I caught it before it fell off. My gauge had started to act up. If you cannot find the washer and lock washer, I don't know if it would cause any problems. Good luck.

I got mine at the dealer for $68.00.Part# YA-5VN-85752-00-00
You also need the washer plate YA90202-05193-00 >47 cents.
you might find it cheaper at BikeBandit.com as they sell OEM parts.
I'm sure there's other places also.
