Kickstand/Sidestand question 2 Years ago
The sidestand has been getting harder and harder to move to the down position so I decided to grease it a bit. Since I didn't have a spring puller I just removed the nut and bolt and then worked some grease around it until it was operating better. My questions is this, the bolt looks like it is threaded right into the stand and the nut seems to be more of a lock for once you have the bolt tightened into the right spot. Can anyone confirm this for me? I kept the stand fairly loose so it's operation is much easier now and then cranked down on the lock nut. I just don't want to pull up to a stop in the near future and find that my stand is sitting somewhere on the I-10.

I believe you can tighten that back up. I squirt white grease up into the hinge and work it back and forth. Works fine.

Not sure bout the bolt, when mine gets tough to put down I just shoot a little wd-40 on it and it works much better, maybe couple times a year is all I have had to do if memory serves.

I just put mine back on yesterday. The bolt threads into the kick stand, and the nut is there to jam it in place and keep it from falling out. There is also a tubular bushing that slides into the frame and the bolt passes through it. This bushing keeps the stand from squeezung tight onto the frame and binding up or plowing off your paint when it swivels.

If you ever pull the spring off, wear gloves. My thumb nail was black for 30 days...

Lesson learned...
