Air filter Question 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Found a K&N filter and cover on ebay and am curious if I'd have to jet the carb or not. It uses the stock air box. I'm also running V&H longshots. Thanks fellas.

No jetting required if you are still using the stock air box. It's only needed when you change toan open air style filter.

Chubs,
What style K&N filter and cover is it?
Does is look like this?
http://www.knfilters.com/yamaha_custom.htm
If it does, you will probably have to rejet.
If it is this style make sure you get one of these also:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=E-3495PK
If it is the K&N filter that looks like this:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=YA-1704
This style fits inside the stock air box using the stock cover you probably will not need to rejet.

Ok, re read your post and look what billd posted. If it goes inside the stock air box and uses the stock cover than no rejet, but, if it is similar to the one billd posted where you can actually see the filter than most likely you will have to rejet.

billd, I think its the same thing that you have on your bike in your sig pic. K&N filter with the V 98 cover. I'm guessing that with more air and same fuel I'd be looking at a lean condition?

Chubs,
I have an '08 V102 with EFI so I can't help you with the rejetting questions but the guys here who have '07 and earlier models have a wealth of knowledge on the subject. Just stick with it and they'll get you thru it.
BillD
PS: You can find discussion threads on rejetting by using the search feature in the upper right corner of the Forum screen.
Good Luck!

Oh yeah. Get a Baron's jet kit. When I put on my K&N and tried it before re-jetting, it would barely get to 50MPH. I have the 172.5 main, clip in 4th groove from blunt end with 1 plastic & 1 metal washer under clip, PMS out 3.75 turns. That should get you into the ballpark. I get from 42 to 50+ MPG.

Ask me about my attention deficit disorder or my pie or my cat. A dog. I have a bike. Do you like TV? I saw a rock. Hi.
