Camping Thread? 5 Years ago
|
|
|
Has there ever been any discussion about interest in a camping and touring dedicated subject? I love to travel, and prefer camping and save my money for gas and more riding. Would like to see info posted from other riders with the same interests.
This is my favorite forum on the internet and you guys do a great job, but then I have to go to GWRAA forum to see any posts about camping, trailers, camp sites, etc.
Maybe there is just not enough roadstar riders interested in that area.

I would rather be on my bike thinking about God, than sitting in church thinking about my bike.

Dryriver, I personally have ridden to 36 states so far on various bikes. I love tent camping, and in fact when I'm riding with my best friend, that's how we stay if the weathers not ridiculous. Usually at a KOA tent site, but also national parks and other places. Camping is the way to go, cheap, fun, and you really get to know somebody in a four man tent! I learned to pack just the essentials on a bike with 2 saddlebags and an ALICE pack strapped across the back. This style of riding also helped my wife (who became her own operator about 3 years ago) to learn to pack "small". People know I don't carry much, but to see a pretty girl with next to nothing for a 5 day roadtrip amazes them. Now everwhere we go (flights, cruises) , we have just carry-on. All thanks to my learning how to pack light on 10 day roadtrips and showing her. Now some of my buddies refuse to "camp" so I hotel it with them, no sweat, but my personal choice is to KOA it, or crash where me and my tent are welcomed.BB

Thanks everyone, that's what I was looking for. Planning a trip from Southern Colorado to Northern Colorado zig zagging up through the rockies for the end of June. Will only be about 1500 miles total, but planning on a lot of lazy rides and sight seeing.
Planning most of it around KOA's, but some stops are left open for just open ground camping where we can do a little hiking. I love to sleep when I want, eat when I want, and although I like a shower every now and then, the freedom to not shave every day is part of the plan.
No pressure reaching the next stop because the next stop constantly changes. The only problem with this type of travel is it's hard to find someone to go with me.
Anyone have suggestions for favorite two man tent?

Maybe your wife could have a class to teach my lady to pack light...
Just got back from a camping , over night stay. She told me she got everything in one bag. It almost wouldn't fit in my bag... Then her purse took up one saddle bag. I had one saddle bag,,

Hear ya Jreed. Sounds like she need her own scoot!
It didn't always go so well, it takes time to help them "unlearn" what you need and don't need, esp. when you generally have 1 saddlebag each, and MAYBE another misc. bag on the back for other things. I have roadtripped in the past with 1 saddlebag, and it ain't easy. But I always told myself,"if mommas happy, were all happy". Besides, she a really good passenger (or was).BB
