Re:Cap resistors 5 Years ago
Here's the scoop on the 4164 and the bike 4164. Both are resistor so.......

MP4164

12mm, 3/4" reach, 11/16" hex, gasket seat, copper core, resistor, power tip, fine wire platinum center electrode with a trimmed side electrode

Autolite Motorcycle Premium spark plugs have a full platinum tip on the center electrode. This platinum point delivers precise firing with virtually no gap erosion. In addition they have a trimmed side electrode which further aids in confining and condensing the spark to create a sharper, brighter spark. Combining these features gives added performance with extended life. Resistor plugs minimize electronic interference and can aid in reducing electrode erosion. Copper core aids in cooling and improves resistance to fouling. Power tip or extended electrode plugs project the firing tip into the combustion chamber which not only aids in cooling but also cleaning so that fouling is reduced at low RPM.

4164

Autolite: Traditional spark plug

12mm, 3/4" reach, 11/16" hex, gasket seat, copper core, resistor, power tip, necked down center electrode

Autolite spark plugs are engineered for every type of internal combustion engine. Necked down center electrode has a copper core center electrode with a two stage nickel chrome alloy tip which produces a hotter, sharper spark.

Hey Musky thanks for all the research I think I will do that today as it is going to rain for the next 8 days and I am rejetting again. BTW all that hard work researching is worh a karma. Thanks!

Morning Curt

Thanks much but I can't take credit for most of this. I read a thread on the RSR about the 4164's ( That's what I copied in the previous post) and that got me thinking about the 2 resistors so I started asking questions. I just thought I'd pass it on because it's an easy cheap fix for a change. Unlike most of the stuff we do to our bikes

So my speech didn't work You're going back in anyway

Yep back in already and jets are changed. Had to back the PMS out again there's got to be something wrong with that crazy carb. It has never been right even when it was stock with just the pipes. It was raining today so no test ride but I may do it tomorrow. Chance of rain is going from 60% to 40%. OK so tell me how to get to those resistors. I'm gonna do that got the #6 wire already also gonna make some new baffles just for the fun of it. Lets see that will give me three sets now..OH BTW did you notice I now have a home made removable drives backrest. Yep I've been busy HE HE.... Always gotta mess with something.

Re:Cap resistors 5 Years ago
Hey Curt

I saw the backrest but didn't know it was home made. Good job Pull one of the plug wires off the plug and look inside the cap. The brass piece that slides on to the spark plug has a slot for a flat blade screwdriver in it. Just unscrew it and tip the cap upside down. The brass piece and the resistor will fall out. Put the piece of wire in place of the resistor and screw the brass piece back in. Done deal. I cut all 4 pieces the same length as the long resistors and it works fine. Sure hope you get that carb figured out.

Thanks Musky it's almost a done deal then it is so easy. Yep I made two different driver backrest brackets that use the stock Yamaha passanger backrest pad. Both are removalable just pop the drivers seat and take outthe screw and pull up. As for the carb Odo on RSR wants me to send it to him if I ever get another one he really want to figure out what it with the stupid thing it has him bumfuzled. Guess you spell it that way....Temped to make the dealer replace if I thought I could get away with it.

I tried them out once and went back to NGK after one season. My bike just did not run right with them on; seemed to run 'rougher'.

But if they are cheaper than NGK it doesn't hurt to try them out. Others seem to have luck with them.
