Engine painting 2 Years ago
Anybody paint there engine black? I'm kinda tired of the silver and was wondering how much of a pain in the ass it would be to paint without removal and tear down.

I really don't want to remove and dismantle to powder coat, thinking of more in the frame painting.

Yes, it's been done by a member.

You need to degrease the engine, remove what you can and tape the rest off.

Sorry but can't remember what he used but I believe it was a hi-temp paint.

Re:Engine painting 2 Years ago
It can be done, but like anything you paint the prep work is key. I did an older Harley that had the paint worn off and it took me a while but came out great. There is a lot of taping involved and like Doc mentioned I removed as much as I could. The hardest part in my opinion is all the bolts. I didn't want them painted over so I had to spend more time than I care to remember wrapping tape around them. Anyway, take your time and it will look great.
