trailers and hitches 2 Years ago

|

Good day gents. I am new to the computer forum world so please bare with me as I work through this.
I have read the postings and have found myself with more questions than before. I have a '05 Roadstar and want to start pulling a trailer. From what I have read I would like to get info from Ironman on the hitches and wiring, I would like to try a hidden hitch so I do not take away from the bikes looks when I'm not towing. The other question is, showing I'm not that big of a mechanic, what is the barnett SR2?
Thanks for your assist and patients.

Hey livinlife1
The Barnett SR-2 is a clutch spring conversion kit. It helps your clutch disks to get more bite with out slipping. Lot of guys upgrade to a SR-2 when they install a big bore kit, larger carb, start towing heavier trailer, or just are just getting a few miles on stock diaphragm clutch system.
If you don't have to many miles on bike, and your not having problems now, you shouldn't have to upgrade just to pull a smaller cargo trailer. Ive pulled my camper, which weighs in at 450-500 lbs, for a couple years now with stock unit. I do plan on upgrding next winter though. Here's a link to one on eBay that may explain better than I can.

I've been pulling a trailer with my '07 Midnight Silverado for two years now. The Barnett SR2 is a conversion kit that replaces the clutch pressure plate and converts from a diaphram spring to 6 independant springs for better clutch engagement. I made the change just before a 1000 mile ride to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon last week and I feel much more confident about pulling the trailer with my Roadie now. I went with a "hidden" hitch manufactured in Canada for my bike. It was priced significantly less than the American made counterpart and I have no complaints. I also installed a wiring adapter to isolate the trailer wiring from the bike. I'm pulling a trailer manufactured by Matrix. I purchased it online from coolcustomtrikes.com.
This is the hitch I'm using:

Here's a pic of my trailer. I added the cooler on the tongue and the graphics. Base price on the trailer was around $1300.

How did the SR-2 effect the clutch pull and engagement zone?

The clutch pull takes more force but not alot. I was out for four days and by the end of the first day I didn't even notice it. The clutch starts to engage at the same place and the friction zone seems similar. That's probably a function of how you choose to adjust it. I think it hooks up better once it does.

Great info to start me off. Any advise about hitches? I would like a hidden hitch but don't know if it would hold of for a pop-up style trailer. Like the fairing, what type is that?
