Best pipes? 2 Years ago
I'm running stage 3 stock exhaust right now, and want to upgrade to bigger, better sound and performance. I'm not that picky when it comes to either true duals or standard pipes. I am also running a K&N air kit, ported intake, and re jetted.
So, my question, and I know this is very subjective: What pipes offer the best combination of sound, performance, fit and finish? Input from as many as possible would be appreciated. And try to include any drawbacks you may have run across while installing and after long term use.

I really want to thank all those who participate in advance.

Rule of thumb is that a 2-1 system will give you the best performance. It all depends on what style you want in your finished bike. I run RoadBurner pipes and am vary happy with the fit, finish & sound. You can get some real deals on them on eBay right now. Good luck on your quest for pipes. Only "What oil is best?" will get more opinions.

The best ones are the ones I have for sale in the Classifieds now...Bub Stubbies.

Actually, that's a shameless plug...but they are very nice pipes that I used to run. I agree with Fireman and like the 2-into-1 pipes for sound and the slightly uncommon look. They are also versatile for baggers and day trip bikes.

Dual pipes are also a nice option. Diff but good sound and sometimes good for low mounted luggage. They also are more flexible on pipe tip options.

As you will quickly learn from the responses here, the "Best Pipes" are the ones YOU like and can AFFORD!
Good luck sorting it all out!
BTW: For what it's worth, I have the Yamaha Speedstar long drag pipes (see my sig picture). They installed easily, look good, and sound great.

It's already been said, but a 2 into 1 setup will generally be your better performer. I was running Santee 2 into 2 tapered tip, Sportster appearing mufflers, and it sounded just like a... Sportster.

I've since acquired a V&H 2 into 1 Pro-Pipe and there's definitely more mid-range punch you can feel. Sound is alright, but not the most pleasant to my ears. But since I like the extra giddyup, I'm keeping it!

I have Shogun pipes on my bike. They are 2 1/2 inch pipes and are bent to the v shape of the engine. I love the way they look and sound. The few drawbacks to these pipes are the baffles are non removable, they are pretty low and will drag riding two up if your not careful and you have to remove one pipe to change the oil in transfer case. Would I buy these pipes over again? I sure would. I would love to have a set of Freedom duals and will sometime but the Shoguns are great for now. You are doing a great thing by getting opinions on the different exhaust out there. Use that info and choose the ones that fit your taste the most. In the end it doesn't matter what everyone else likes, it only matters that you are satisfied with whatever you choose! Hope this helps in whatever you decide to purchase. Oh and don't forget to check with Clifford when you decide, he could save you several greenbacks!

I like Firemans, Deadlions... even the set he is selling, Billd, Questcaps... when he had a sig pic, oneperfectruns, bartishs too. But, I gotta plug my Dooleys.

Do your research and get what you like cause they all look and sound good for whatever your building.

You will get all kinds of input and opinions lol! I agree with fireman that the Roadburners are a nice pipe and just installed a set of Roadburner double eagles on my bike. Like he said you can pick these up for half the cost right now on ebay but they are good quality and double walled pipes. I still need to clean up bike and get some pics lol.

Re:Best pipes? 2 Years ago
started laughing when I read about the V&H longshots.. too much bark...

I run straight pipes.... VERY LOUD

I looked up the pipes where I ordered them and they're not even made anymore. Sad.

They're still rockin, bout the only problem I have with them is I can't sneak away at work. You hear me comin from a mile away or leavin as the case might be.
