BlkCherryBomb:

I actually used dental floss, a few weeks back, to remove the emblems on my side covers.

First, I heated up the area for a few minutes using a hair dryer.

Next, I doubled up a length of dental floss and, using a sawing motion, the emblem came right off. The floss didn't break a single time and I did both sides with the same piece of floss.

Finally, I used a plastic putty knife to scrape off as much glue as I could, then I followed that with Goo Gone for the residual glue.

It worked like a charm.

For decals, I heated the decal with a hair dryer, pryed up one corner enough to grab the decal with my fingers, then slowly removed the decal.

No problems.

Don't need floss in Texas just park in the 105 summer heat and they will fall off.

Thread necromancy!!

Okay: So the heat gun/fishing line/dental floss trick works with the tank emblems and the side cover emblems, and both sets are held in place with double-sided tape? Am I understanding this correctly?

yep... remember to drag the line on the tank side of the tape ie.. close to the tank...less tape residue left behind

Re:safely removing emblems 3 Years, 9 Months ago
I've been thinking about taking my emblems off and having a desing put on the tank sides. After talking to a couple of guys, one fellow that does pinstriping said if i haven't got a firm idea on what I want, and/or don't wnat to spend $800 to paint the inserts and reseal, I should find a design (see below for flaming 8 ball), take it to one of these companies that dowindow graphics, and they'll do the whole deal for a little bit more than nothing.
Sent the design, and they said they could do both sides for approx. $30; $40 if I wanted them to apply them to the tank. Plus, they said you not only can remove them anytime, they're not thick, and look like paint...

anybody out there tried this?
