Re:Best pipes? 2 Years ago
I just replaced my V&H LongShots with Roadhouse Classic 2-1 pipes - after a short ride I love them! They fit my riding style better - quieter, and MUCH more low-end oomph at the cost of wide-open power ... great tone as well. Plus they are a bit quieter with the standard baffle than the V&H with the quiet baffle . . .

<Shameless plug>Incidentally, will be selling the V&H if anyone is interested!</Shameless plug>

Without Dyno numbers it's hard to make a choice. I learned the hard way with my 442. I had over $700 invested in 3" exhaust with "X" pipe. It flowed so well I lost all bottom end Torque (306hp and 330lb). I took the 3" off and put back the old system (2.5" & "H" pipe) It hurt HP a little, but the back pressure got much better torque numbers (296hp & 421lb). This was rear wheel numbers. Needless to say, the rumble of the 3" wasn't that important, I wanted power. The 2.5" had completely different sound. Is there any dyno mnumbers out there on the internet for various pipe applications to Roady's?
Good Luck on your search!
Ride safe!

I figure it has to do with two things: first, what kind of sound, second the look. My daugher selected my HK sidwinders for the look and I liked the sound. When I first got the bike it had the stock one on and they were so quite that folks in my club said, "we saw you go by but couldn't hear you." Did the slash cut and bore which gave me the sound but not the look I was wanting. After the woman did the hit and run on me I ordered the HKs. If I were to do pipes again I'd go with duellys I think.

I have been real pleased with my 2 into 1 Roadhouse classics...the long one. The performance has been great and the purr until you get on it, then they bark.

I love my Cobra speedster shorts. They have a crossover pipe at the muffler body that helps keep the torque numbers up closer to that of a 2 to 1. They sound awesome I think, I left the baffles in and it sounds very "hot-roddish" with a deep tone. There are a few vids on youtube where folks have installed various pipes so you can see/hear them. Most of the audio is a little lacking but you'll get the general idea. Cobra's website has audio clips for the bikes also that sound much better than youtube. I have an 08 FI so I also opted for the Fi2000R O2 and I get about 45-50 mpg. Enjoy.

Might as well throw my hat in the ring here.

When I choose pipes I first go with what looks good. Then I take that list and go grab some sound files from the internet and troll forums to find out "loudness." At that point, as long as you are going with a reputable vendor, performance numbers usually aren't a huge deal as they seem to be roughly within the same ballpark. (It's a big ballpark)

I have gone with Bubs Big Willies on my VStar, Cobra Speedster Slashdowns on my Roadstar, and Yoshimura titanium RS3s on my Hayabusa with no disappointment whatsoever on any of those. The Cobras are a bit on the loud side but they have grown on me, or my hearing has gotten damaged, it could be either
