Quick question, need quick answer 1 Year, 12 Months ago
Wiring up my stereo as we speak, but can't seem to find my multi-meter. I'm wanting to tap into the fuel pump wire to serve as the "switch" wire for the relay on the stereo's main power wire, but I wanted to make sure it's constant when the ignition is on and not intermittent (cycling on/off). Anyone know?

Oh yeah, what's the "Back Up" 5A fuse in the fuse box for? Thought maybe I got lucky and Yamaha put us in an auxiliary fuse, but when I pulled the box it already has wires run to it that go straight into the factory bundle. We don't have back-up lights, so I'm curious what's on this circuit.

the backup fuse goes to the dash cluster (speedo/fuel level meter combo).

I would guess, just looking at the diagram, that the hot feed on the fuel pump would not be a constant. It runs from a relay that appears to be regulated by the ignitor unit. How about your headlight wire? It's right up front and is a switched constant.

I tied into the fuel pump circuit for my tach. It comes on for a couple seconds then shuts off if you just have the key on (not started). When the bike is running it is constant. Hope that helps!

easy enough, wire a relay to the front running light, when key is turned on, power to relay, hardly any draw for the relay, then power from battery to any accessory. Thats how I did my electrics, relay powers a 6 fuse fuse panel, stereo, pwr antenna, tach, voltmeter all run off aux fuse panel

I'm putting the relay back under the seat (where the stock tool kit was), so it just made more sense to tap into the fuel pump wire since it's right there. I do like the fuse block idea though.

What I did was made a loom with a red (power), a black (ground) and a blue (memory) wire that run back to the battery from the fairing. These wires connect up to one end of a 4-wire waterproof trailer light connector (flat type) to provide for a disconnect point should I ever want to pull the fairing. Running it this way the 12v accessory plug will be switched as well so I don't have to worry about my GPS or phone charger draining down the battery if I forget to unplug them.

Waiting on the store to open to get a couple ring connectors for at the battery, shrink tube, and more butt connectors.

I'm happy to report the stereo is all wired up and kickin out some rockin tunes. Only problem is I have to have the bike running to figure out how to use the dang thing, but that's the trade-off of not having to remember to turn it off every time I stop somewhere.

I'm also happy to say I'm not going to need an amplifier to hear the stereo over my obnoxiously loud pipes (Samson Street Sweepers). Even at 80mph I can hear it perfectly fine without cranking it up to the point it starts distorting. Happy day....that just saved me $350.

Good to hear it's "ROCKIN" lol. I have a Jenson waterproof marine radio, what I like about it, there is no memory voltage needed, so when it's off, it's off. It still retains it's memory tho, it's my memory that's shot. lol

And as far as the "back-up fuse" I just looked in schematic, well the 1600 schematic, goes right from pos bat to speedo, that's what must be keeping the memory of clock and odometer intact. I can't see any other use for it
