Just finished installing Apes - I'm Shot 1 Year, 12 Months ago
Well I just got through putting a set of 16" ape hangers on my Road*. They are 1-1/4" so I ran the wires internally, and let must just say it was a true pain in the ass. But it looks great.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not mechanical at all, and had never soldered anything until today. I am an engineer, but the sticks, bricks, and dirt kind; so I know very little about anything electrical or mechanical. So, when it came to installing the apes and extending the wiring I thought what the heck I'll give it a try. Well, I'm guessing I worked on it about 10 hours and it's finally done, I think.

The worst part is, that my tins are at the paint shop along with my only key in the gas cap, so now that it's all back together I can't even check to make sure everything works right. Lord, I hope it works right because I never want to take this on again.

When you get your key back and it all works fine(and, you're a member of the "cool club" ), the pain of your labor will be soon forgotten...
I guess that's why women keep having kids, right?

Post a photo when you're done. We'd all probably like to see the final results.

So it took you 10 hours, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you did it and like Tampa said you'll soon forget the "pain of your labor". Good job dude

Pics when you can

Bet you didn't expect to find that many wires in those little bundles did you? LOL I did mine earlier this spring and while I've done it before it was still a challenge.

Now I'm considering switching to Harley controls, and if I do I'll get to do it all over again. Guess I'm a gluten for punishment. lol

Hey EasyRiderKY, I feel every minute of your pain. Like you, I'm not much of a wrench, but willing to get in over my head because I have my Roadstar Clinic members to back me up. I just know you are going to love your apes. I just finished a 2000+ trip to Key West and the apes felt comfortable the whole way. I have to lean a little foreward a bit when making real tight parking lot turns because my arms arn't long enough, but it is a natural movement so not a big deal. Besides, the cool factor is a plus, at least in my mind. Welcome to the coolest subdivision of the Clinic: Roadstar Clinic Apemen.
