Re:Rebuilding my '00 Roadstar Beater, lots of pics 1 Year, 10 Months ago
My bike is actually in pretty sad shape right now. I need to cover the damn seat, I've just been too busy riding to finish it! I also need to lose the geeky stock mirror, looking for something that fits, looks cool, and doesn't cost a fortune. It's dirty as hell but I'm gonna wash it tomorrow. I also need to swap out some of the black bolts I used "temporarily" while I waited for chrome hardware to come in, they all rusted. So yeah, it's def back to beater bike status. A funny story though, last weekend I'm out barhopping with some friends in Philly and a few of them had Redneck choppers they bought. They've all seen my Redneck project, but were surprised to see me on a Yamaha. So these guys are all tattooed up with Bandanas on their heads riding their store bought cookie cutter choppers, and one says to me "What are you doing riding that thing?" I brush it off because really not much bothers me to begin with. They leave and 20 min later one of them is blowing up my phone. He is broken down on the side of the road with a broken throttle cable. I told him to just switch his idle cable to the pull side but he has no idea, and has no allen wrenches to do it. My reply: "All those bandanas and none of you have tools? Sorry, mine are all metric." Poor guy had to get a tow but he got what was coming to him.

So back to my bike I need to cover the seat, and make or buy a set of adjustable dog bones to lower the rear back down. It was bottoming very badly once I flipped the dogbone, so I flipped it back and put a Progressive spring under there. Now it's sitting maybe 3/4" too high in the rear. My lathe doesn't do metric threads, so I need to get creative and come up with something, just been too lazy. I also need to make some detail bits like the swingarm pivot covers, axle bolt covers, and stuff like that. I just bought a TIG welder and plasma cutter, so I plan on making some quick release bag mounts to hang on custom struts and a sissy bar. I'll get back on it, but for now I'm just enjoying summer. I'll post pics once the seat is done. Right now it's just not much to look at.

Finished the bars. I gotta get rid of that giant mirror when I get a chance. Haven't decided what to put on there yet...

I suggest something like that :

Thanks for all the great comments. I gave up on trying to cover the seat and just had someone do it. Just got it back today. I still need to make adjustable dog bones. Anyone know off the top of their heads what the size is on the bolts in the stock dog bones?

Here it is as of tonight. Still need to get that rear end lowered some more and polish those front forks. I think I'm gonna weld a reciever on the brake lever mount so I can attach any mirror I want.

Still don't know what to do for struts. I had an idea and bent some solid aluminum round stock. I want struts so I can hang bags and mount a sissy bar.
