dieseling issue 4 Years, 12 Months ago
I don't really know how to explain it but, when I shut off my R* the engine will almost reverse and sometimes even backfire. Anyone else have this problem? It seems to happen when the engine is cold or hot.

I don't know if it's the same thing as yours, but sometimes when I shut mine off it will cough/sneeze as if to release the compression.

Smhowse, mine does it occasionally. I am not sure what causes it, but, it will reverse direction and you can usually hear the starter turn backwards.

I have developed a habit of letting mine idle about 10 or 15 seconds before turning it off and it doesn't seem to do it so much.

I don't think it is a problem, just a big twin resisting quiting what it likes to do best.

It just doesn't complete it's last stroke and the compression pushes the piston back down in the reverse direction. The key is off so there is no spark to burn the gas. In other words it BURPTED!

I'm glad it isn't just me but it is still discerning I don't like associating burping and my bike unless it is me

Musky is on to something. I was having the same intermitent problem and when I backed off the idle a little bit, it went away. Hasn't happened since. I don't have a tacometer so I don't know what it is set at but it's a slow and steady cadence that allows smooth operation.

Huh I'll check lowering the idle it doesn't sound too high the dealer said R* shouldn't sound like the Hardleys where you can could the engine revolutions and that R* need to have a higher idle.
But I will turn it down a little and see if it helps.
