Long distance riding 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I have a question: Are cruisers more comfortable long distance bikes or Sport Touring bikes like Yamaha FJR ?

It depends on which riding position you like best, etc. Each type has its pros and cons. You'll need to try both to see what suits you best. It's a personal preference.

The seating position of either is vastly different. The FJ has your feet under your seat, where the RoadStar has them in recliner position, farther ahead of you. I'd think the FJ has better seating comfort, as the stock Star seat is only marginal if your larger than a fit athletic type. A bigger seat like a Danny Grey might be the ticket on the Star, and I'v heard good things about Mustang stuff. My choice would be the FZ for interstate, also don't dismiss the Concours model from Kawasaki, they seem to have a huge following. I think the KEY thing on any bike that your going to tour with is finding a comfy seat, then address the handelbar grips for vibration related numbness of the hands. Pluss a windshield makes all the difference in the world, boy did I get spoiled with the Silverado.

GoHot229:

Have you done some long distances on the Silverado? I have not done any long trips on my R*, but last week I did a 2800 miles round trip from NJ to Key West Fl, on my Motoguzzi. I developed a case of monkey butt but the rest was fine.

Is the R* good for interstate travels?

I ride with two guys on ST1300's. Just returned from riding in Ark. for several days. I had to put them to bed everynight. They could not make it home non-stop. Me and the RS with Ultimate seats made it home, only stopping for gas and food.

Rode from NY to bike week in Ohio this weekend on my RS. 750+ miles round trip and to detriot last month. Added highway bar and pegs and upgraded the seat to a mustang. I believe it's as nice a ride as anything else..
