proud owner of a 99 roadie 4 Years, 11 Months ago

99 silverado with 7200 miles on it. it has cobra drag pipes witch i dont care for and a jet kit. other then that its stock. I want to boost up the performance and give it that classic look. I hear the vance & hines longshots are the best for this bike. the cobra pipes have a tinny sound to them. but i dont something to have that nasty sound when letting off the trottle. when your running no baffles. any ideas. I likes the idea of rinehart pipes with the stepped headers. but they are too short i want pipes to go under my bags and exit near the end of the fender. I know alot about performance tuning with carbs, I know right now my bike is running way to rich. so i need to get in there and adjust her right. I hear about intake porting, but i sean acouple of years ago when i built a custom roadie hot rod we used a Nemesis mandifold but i cant seam to find them any more. does anyone have info on them still. I'm getting the dyna ign box,and a barons BAK. right now the big thing is the pipes. i dont like cobra pipes. every honda VTX1800 that i have worked on we used the V&H pipes or the DG hard/krome pipes. I want full out performance with a nice sound and thats not going to blue.

Welcome to the Clinic.
These days most pipes don't discolor due to the heat shields so you're good to go there.
Check out the style you like and then try to hear them. Sound is so subjective that it's tough to make a recommendation of what you'd like.
You can get the Nemesis for the '99 directly from Doug (DK) or you can pick them up on e-Bay. I don't know which price is better. Greg's changed the design slightly from the original but it's still a great manifold.

All 1600's are under a recall because of the tranny locking up on some. Call a dealer or Yamaha cust service and give them your VIN and they can tell you if it's been done on yours. You can check this out to get some info - http://forums.delphiforums.com/1602/messages?msg=142872.1

Most likely yours has not been done as the original recall did not include the 99s.
You still need to contact the dealer to verify but check the VIN on the neck. If it has a dot over it then yours has been done.

ok i'll look on the neck. I did just order the clutch upgrade along with the updated oil pump drive shaft. Theres alot that i have to do this bike to make it my own. one is add alot more chrome. and keep it simple I'm going for that old school classic cruiser look. with from factory it started with but more chrome and a little bit more power. some minor upgrades to the engine but nothing that will push its limits.
I think im gona get the V&H longshots HS pipes. they look very nice and i hear a set on a 1700. when i went out for breakfest today.
