How much horse power does a 2002 R* has?

I am just interested, for no good reason,comparing HP of different bikes!

I want to improve my understanding of the relationship between horse power and cubic centimeters.

A Yamaha FJR is only 1300 c.c while the R* is 1600 so how come their horse powers are so different. The FJR around 145 hp and R* at 55 hp or so.

I am sure I am missing something huge here.

Horsepower is a calculation derived from factors such as torque and RPM.

Torque is a true measured value.

My Roadstar has about the same torque rating as my Suzuki Hayabusa(fastest sportbike on the planet).

My Hayabusa topped out at about 190HP due to differences in gearing and RPM at any given speed. The 'busa redlines at a much higher RPM, 11,000.

Engine SIZE really has no factor in this calculation with the exception of how they affect these two values.

T = 5252 x HP
---------
RPM

HP = T x RPM
---------
5252

Here is some basic information on calculating "work." http://www.elec-toolbox.com/Formulas/Motor/mtrform.htm

The FJR has 4 small bore cylinders and turns at high RPM, while the R* has 2 big bore cylinders and turns at low RPM. If you were to turn the R* engine at 7,000 RPM you would have engine parts scattered to the 4 winds! If you try to cruise the FJR at 2000 RPM it probably won't get out of its own way!
