Baron's Good N Tite Bushings 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I completed my 16" apes about a month ago, and I noticed more vibration thru the handlebars. My question is for those of you that have replaced your bushings, how big a job is it? Can you just take the risers off and replace the bushings, or is there more to it than that?

I changed to the Good-n-tite's and tried to remove the bushings using my vise and sockets. No go, had to take them down and have them pressed out of the upper tree. New one's went in fine. I actually didn't notice how solid it was after they were in until I was sitting at a stop light and I noticed the bars were shaking a bit. I think it allows you to "feel" the bike more. I don't like being isolated from the feel of the bike so I tend to not have much in the way of cushy comfort items on my bike.

Did you take the upper tree off, or did you take the bike to the shop and have them taken out and pressed in on the bike?

I had to take off the upper tree and suspect every one has to, those bushings were way tight.
Not hard at all really. Take off handlebar and lay on to towel covered tank. Pull out risers. Then take off big nut on stem, take out pinch bolts then tap the top tree off with a rubber mallet. Reassemble same way BUT make sure and torque to factory spec's. It's not as much torque on those pinch bolts as you would think.

Roy I've got some solid bushings if you want them. Putting in more solid bushings won't eliminate any vibration... just the opposite - you'll probably notice more vibration since it's more hard-mounted to the triple tree. Putting in hard bushings will just remove the flex that you notice with the apes' leverage. I decided to just deal with the squishy flex and not worry about pressing out the stock ones.

Let me know if you're interested in the hard bushings.

OK thanks Don. Maybe I will stay with the stock bushings for a while at least. I'm tired of constantly working on the bike. Think I will leave it alone for a while and just ride. Roy

Get a 3/16" drill bit and drill down through the rubber all around the stock bushings to loosen them up, then they will tap right out. Takes about 15 min.

+1. Well worth it. Way better than the flex from stock. Don't go rigid though. In the long run I dont think you'll dig it.

Yes, you must get that sleeve out... it is a part of the original bushing... I used a press to get the factory bushings out...
