Well, I usually leave my helmet sitting on my passenger rest, except, of course when I'm parked in my driveway. Bags don't lock anyway, so there's nothing to do there.
Guess I'm just hoping most people don't know when a biker's coming back to his bike.

Because of my business, Alarms, I rarely have any opportunity to leave my bike unattended when away from the house, it is usually within view.
At home, I have a elaborate security system with cellular monitoring, an alarm takes less than a couple of seconds to be transmitted to the Central Station. The next layer of security is a 12 guage and .40 cal. with the dogs being the early warning devices ahead of the Alarm system.
For those of you with home alarm systems, cellular is the way to go. I had a APC burn up in the middle of the nite some months back. The smoke detector in my office tripped, the alarm sounded, and I was up out of bed PDQ. As I started my walk thru to find the smoke detector in alarm, the phone rang. The Central Station dispatcher was literally talking to me within 12 seconds of the alarm.
Back to bikes. Available for virtually any equipment is a mobile cellular, all in one, alarm system. It has GPS and works wherever you have the slightest cellular signal. Granted, they're not cheap but they work. They have self contained power, shock and motion detection. They were designed for heavy equipment and job site lock up areas. They're strong and fast. The signal is already sent before someone can even come close to damageing them.

I just got back from Niagara Falls, Canada, and didn't worry too much about security, but I use a Xena alarm disc lock, a heavy-duty padlock on the fork, the built-in fork lock, a padlock to secure our helmets to the luggage rack, and sometimes a Kryptonite cable lock depending on where I park and for how long. And someone still went through my saddlebags at our B&B and ripped off my tire gauge!! But the fact is, about 4 guys and some heavy-duty straps is all they need to get your bike if they have a trailer or pickup truck.... don't leave ANYTHING in your saddlebags- they can go through them in 10 seconds. And on your padlock for the forks, put a bunch of nuts on the lock so you can't get a bolt-cutter to the hasp.

When I went to work, I had to think to take the key out of the ignition...
Also, pointed left there's a set of eye holes, put a case hardened lock in there. Bolt cutters can't cut that, and if the bike is turned hard left, they'll be hard pressed to move it.
Keep your bike safe, but don't piss off criminals to much, if they get annoyed and can't steal it, they'll push it over out of spite. Keep them from coming up to begin with.
