LOL!
I guess as long as he tightens up the guards on the new exhaust system, he can be considered correct in his diagnosis...

How were you able to hold onto it and make the noise go away?
Where did I say that I did that?

Along the lines of the mystery noise, my windshield rattles like crazy, I wear an IPOD when I ride except when I go on the Navy Base and can even hear the rattle over my ears buds, I have tightened everything I can think of and it still vibrates, not so bad with my ear buds but without them it gets really annoying. Any suggestions??

Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: I SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. John F. Kennedy Aug. 1963

Ah, my mistake...
I thought you were able to determine that the source of your resonance (typically found during vibration) was found to be the front pipe. The only way I know to do that is to actually make it stop resonating for a short period of time. Maybe you have a better way to do that.
I learned a good lesson many years ago. So, at this point, I'm going to shut up. You seem to have it under control.

Funny, I kinda thought 1500 to 1800 is lugging the motor a bit. I keep my r's at 2k or over between gears (except at take-off )

For what its worth, I've got an 08 with .. 30 something thousand km on it now, and I have the same knock, especially when it warms up. I thought maybe the valves were the culprit, then came across this little tidbit. Gas her up and ride, its a noisy motor but nothing to worry about, IMO.

Thanks for that article, I usually wear a fullface helmet but at the bike
Rally today I rode without a helmet and noticed a lot of noise I associated with
the valve train. Had me worried, I'll probably check valves anyway as I
have 23,000 miles on her but the info gave me piece of mind.
Thanks,
Chris

I know I'm a bit late on this thread but gotta ask, do you have a factory windshield and factory lowers? If so, a very common rattle is the mount for the lowers. This mount will vibrate excessively at certain RPM's and if you have auxillary lites, it really rattles loud.
I used a really simple fix. Door manufactures use small rubber plugs in the door jambs to stop the door from slamming against the jamb(commercial steel jambs). They also make a half sphere with a sticky back for additional shock absorbtion. I put one of these between the lower mount and the aux lighting mount and solved the rattle. It still vibrates excessively but does not rattle.
