Like Doc said, it will improve at the bike breaks in. I have found that checking MPG over several fill ups is more accurate unless you drive the exact same way every time. In the last couple of months I have seen a high of 56mpg and a low of 38mpg. With an average in the mid 40's I'm quite satisfied.

Enjoy the new bike. You're gonna love it!!

It's great to have another black bike here cause as we all know black is faster P)

yamahog,

Welcome. I'm a newbie as well, so we can ask dumba** questions together.

I bought a 2005 Road Star Silverado (1700) new last year in April. Off the floor, I got 37.4 mpg. I'm running between 39 and 44 mpg now, depending on what kind of riding I'm doing, and everything is still completely stock. Not sure if that will help you gauge anything.

I call my bike my Yamahog, by the way.

As a fellow newbie I had to check this post out. BT what kind of engine guard bars do you have? Hard to tell from the picture but looks like you have highway pegs also? I have an '07 R* Midnight I just bought and starting to dress up and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for highway/cruise pegs. Thx.
