Well, I've been itching to do it & today it was 95 degrees & I did it! I removed my windshield & lowers for the 1st time & rode it around town. I can't believe how much lighter the steering is! The whole bike feels lighter! I also found a long straightaway & opened her up. With windshield & lowers installed, I could not get past 112. Today I made it past 115 & she was still climbing! I believe if I'd stayed with it, she's have topped 120! My fuel mileage may improve as well. I can't believe the difference, she rides like a whole different machine, I feel like I'm having an affair ! My shields are staying off (at least until winter)!

Cool....I took mine off as well a couple of years ago and only put it back on if I'm heading out for a long trip. I remember when I first took the shield off it felt like I was looking straight down the forks. Obviously I wasn't....just felt that way. Haven't been up to 115 in awhile. Thanks for putting that thought in my head. I may be sending you a bill soon.

Regards....greeny

I never used a windshield until recently and now I won't take a long trip without one. I will however not ride around town with one on. I really don't like them much but they make longer rides much easier due to less wind fatigue on your body on the long trips. Plus, heading up into the mountains in the colder weather it is a necessity.

I do love riding without a windshield.

All said and done in the end I will have the best of both worlds. Got one bike with bags crash bars and winshield. Once I get the 05 put back together I will have one with the bare minimum on it so I can choose what I want to ride for that time.

I'm jealous! Your wife lets you have two bikes! I'd like to talk my wife into giving up her space in the garage & letting me get a 2nd bike. Then, I could keep my Roadie set up for trips & have a little Bonneville SE, Thruxton or something similar set up naked for around town & corner-carving! I love the new Hinkley Triumphs!

I'll keep saying it, take off the windsheild, bags, boards and anything else you may have bolted on and she will fly!!

I've hit 110 (116 on speedo) with the windshield on.
I still had some throttle and rpm's left also.

Re:Top Speed 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Been running bare bones for 22 years now, regardless of the weather. Both on my old Harleys and my current R*. I guess if I put a shield, bags, or fairing on I might have to come to grips with the fact I'm getting older. Whether around town, to work, or on an IronButt ride I run with the bare minimum (tool bag on the forks).
As far as top speed goes, I've buried it at 120 with more to spare (haven't waited to get speed trapped to see how fast I was actually going). I love this bike, my favorite so far!
