swap '08 mags for wire wheels 1 Year, 9 Months ago
OK...So my brother-in-law has a '95 Fatboy. He didn't like the mag wheels that were on it, so he bought wire spokes and installed them with white sidewall tires. IT LOOKS GREAT!!

Then I got thinking about my '08 Roadie.....(This always costs me more money)....has anyone done the same with an '08? I sure would like some input from anybody who's tried it, done it, or has a good reason why it SHOULDN'T be done. Pictures would be great too.

Are you asking about putting R* wire wheels on, or Harley wire wheels? Both can be done, ones just a bit easier than the other.

If you're asking if anybody switched an 08 Road Star stock cast wheels for Road Star spoke/wire wheels, the answer is Yes...

Couldn't have been any easier to make the switch.

And, I'm much happier with the look.

Ask the dealer to do it... the wires were optional, and I'll bet they'd be glad to do the swap and peddle the mags!

I traded a local guy my spokes for his mags early this spring - no problem at all for either of us. Now we both have the wheels we wanted.

I did just the opposite. It's a direct swap if you stay 2004 or newer. The only difference is the finish so some part numbers may vary. You asked for a reason not to so here goes. The spoke wheels must use a tubed tire so if you run alot of miles think about the fact that if you pick up a nail you can not just plug it and go. You will be dead in the water until a tow truck comes get you.
Hope this helps

Tubeless tires are nice when a flat happens, but I just can't help loving the old-school look of wire spokes. Also, when you mention swapping with the dealer...is it possible to avoid a big expense? In other words, is it usually a one for one swap or is there a big difference in cost? Sounds like the cast wheels are a hot item...
