I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. When I bought my '06 Midnight Road Star, I also bought a "Pit Pass", which is only offered by this particular dealer in Georgetown, Texas. It cost $1400 bucks. I know it sounds like a lot, but it was rolled into the loan. Now the "Pit Pass" pays for all service and parts recommended by Yamaha for three years. Yep, three years. Oil changes every 2000 miles. Replacing plugs every 8000 miles. The 16000 mile valve adjustments, oil change, clutch adjustments, and other stuff. All of it "Free". Not one dime. OH, yea, I did pay the $1400, but let's calculate. Oil change = $250, 8000 mile Service = $350, & the 16000 mile Service = $450. Let's say I'm going to hit 30,000 miles in three years. That's 15 oil changes - two, 13 X 250 = $3,250 + $450 + $350 which equals $4,050 bucks for dealer service. FREE. No, not really, but it's only 35% of what it would cost. Do it yourself for that? Probably not. I win. I got the best deal.

Later,

Russ

Guys, I need some help. I am a little confused on the Marvel Mystery Oil added to the fuel. Are we adding the MMOil or the MMO FUEL ADDITIVE? I've checked the MMO website and it looks like you could do either or. What do you guys recommend for our bikes? Thanks.

Huh?

My bottle says add to gas or oil!

When I use it, which has been 3 times over the last 5 years, it's in the gas or shot into the carb.

Musky & Doc: Thanks for the info. How much do you recommend you put in with a fill up. I've also heard and read where some guys put MMO in every fill up, and Doc, you're saying only 3x in 5 years? What's the recommended rate of use for MMO? My bike has 20K miles and I hear a little engine noise, I'm hoping the MMO will help.

Hey Pete

There's usually directions on the bottle for the amount. Probably around 1 oz / Gal. If you have to run it in every tank to keep things running well I would say you have a problem you need to fix.

Musky: Got it, that's a logical response, Yea I've read some site
where the guy said he uses it in every fill up. Sounded like a
little overkill. OK, I'll get a small bottle and try this.

It sure won't hurt to run a couple oz in every tank as a preventative. But if you have to run it then you got problems. But it seems jetting, oil level, and not lugging the motor is your best preventative.

That's not what it is for.

What type of engine noise? At 20 k it possible that you may need to have the valves checked.

On start up (cold) after she rolls over and starts, I'll hear a click sound. It may be 2-5 seconds apart, not in time with the engine. This seems to go away after the engine has warmed up. And occasionally I'll hear what I think is a little too much clatter up top in the engine. I've owned this bike for about 3 weeks and have have put 1200 miles on it. These sounds may have been there from the start, and I just attributed it to being my first big twin. I accepted these noises, but now I'm thinking she may need a little TLC. Let me know what you guys think. I appreciate the help.
