Blew out the seals in my Tricky! ** UPDATE** 1 Year, 9 Months ago
I know I have been praising Tricky for their great customer service in the past, but they have really gone and done it now... somehow, someway, I blew out the bi-directional seals in my Tricky Air shock ... so I called them and explain what the bike was doing... basically it was loosing air through the ride control dial on the shock itself... I even took that apart and tried to replace the little o-ring thinking that was the issue... the rep told me that I somehow have damaged the seals and I needed to take it off the bike and send it back to them so they can rebuild it Dangit... and I have a big ride tomorrow too... So, I ask him, "how much will that cost me?" he said "NOTHING! it is under warranty and we want to make sure when it is rebuilt that the internal walls are still in good shape and if they are not they will fix it or replace it at no extra charge" Holy Crap Batman!!! That made me very happy to say the least... I guess when you have a product as good as theirs, they can afford to stand behind it like they do... If anyone is wondering if you should bite the bullet and buy one from Tricky, I say without a doubt, YES! Tricky Air is a class act in my book and their product is awesome to boot...

What am I gonna do for the ride tomorrow?!? Well, my brother is allowing me to ride his 09 HD Electra Glide with all the bells and whistles... It wont be my Roadie, but atleast I will be on two wheels... I will give a ride report on how well it handles and powers in comparison if you want... but, he has already had some engine work done to it... and I dont think I will be listening to the motor as much with the tunes a rockin from the fairing

Comforting to know Tricky is standing by their product. I am happy with mine. Were you doing anything abnormal when it blew? Did you have to ride home slammed all the way down?

Yeah Tony let's hear what you have to say about that 09 is it an electra glide or the ultra classic?? The reason I ask is the electra glide standard doesn't have all the bells and whistles.

Not that I know of... I ride with it most of the time all the way up... but, sometimes ride with it about half way up... as far as I know, I have not hit any big potholes or done anything detrimental to the suspension... when it happened, I finally got it to air up after fiddling with it for a few minutes... got it home and started checking it out...

actually it is the Electra Glide Classic... He added on the detachable king tour pack as well... the only other thing that he has yet to add is the leg fairings, and I dont know if he is going to add those or not... Today, I changed out his exhaust to the V&H system and reprogrammed his computer for those and added some LED's for him... I have ridden it about a 100 miles already and I really like the ride and how easy it is to control... the 96cc fuel injected engine is really sweet too... has a lot of pick up and go... with the new frame, it really seems to handle a lot better than the older touring models, and I have ridden my share of the older ones cause I use to own a 95 electra... I will be putting it through the paces tomorrow though... we are taking a challenging ride tomorrow through some of our world famous twisties... so we will see how she does there...

UPDATE

Well, here is the update on my Tricky Air warranty experience...

I was told by the guy at Tricky that I had to send the shock back to get it repaired under warranty... Cool, I thought... after 3 days passed, I got a VM on my cell at the very end of business day to call them back for the info on the shock... I tried to call them right back, but got no answer... I called them back the next morning to see what the deal was... Josh told me what happened with the shock and with the parts I needed, I had to pay for all the parts in this "warranty" repair... now mind you, I was told that I "must" send the shock in for repair to maintain warranty... no problem... but nobody said anything about having to pay for the parts!!! Mind you, the seals dont cost much... but the other parts that I needed did... I needed a new ride control valve, cause the one that was in it literally disintegrated, and the bolt cross threaded taking it off which broke... the ride control valve itself was over $20!! I told Josh, if that is all the warranty is, then I could have done the repair myself and done it alot faster... his reply was, "Im sorry"... nothing else... I also shot off an email to the owner about this crappy experience... and I got back basically the same response...

Now mind you... Im in school right now (as most of you know) with limited income and no job... so you can see where and why Im not a happy camper... any other time, I probably would not have been complaining... but, to me, that was crappy customer service... I know Im rattling on like a baby... but I think the situation should have and could have been handled a lot better...

For those of you that know hydraulics and/or pneumatics, you can rebuild these things with ease... I certainly will in the future

Hmph...

But, if the shock itself were worn/damaged after two years of use, they would have warranteed it? That's not to bad of a deal on a $800.00-$1000.00 shock? You'd be giggling if they sent you back a new shock...

Sucks you had to pay for the valve, though. You couldn't probably found one yourself. But, you know they atleast looked it over before sending it back. That's probably worth $20.00 to me.

Glad to know you'll be back in the "Cool Club" soon.

Thats what I thought about the warranty... after two years??? But he said it was still under warranty, so I went with it... the total cost of the parts was around $60 plus shipping it to them ($30)... and I pointed out that the valve was bad... they were not gonna send me another one in the rebuild until I said something... atleast they didnt charge me return shipping too... which they could have... there are still bright spots in this experience, but I would much rather do my own work... just like the rest of my bike...

Atleast I got to ride my bike this week to school and save A LOT of cash in gas... that I am happy about...
