Phase 3 of break in 6 Years, 8 Months ago
|
|
This RS is the first NEW bike I have bought since 81', an Electra Glide that was in the shop for 4 of the 10 months I owned it and re-built at 1800 miles. I never got the joy of feeling it break in as I sold it after the re-build. So far with the RS I have felt 3 distinct break in times. 0-600 miles it definitly felt tight but very quiet, 600-1400 losened up with a few new noises and vibrations, now it is just incredible!!
It seems to have opened up, smoothed out, quieted down, and is just an incredible ride. Even my wife mentioned from the back seat last night that we seemed to just be floating in the wind. Exactly what I was looking for. Any more pleasant surprises I might look forward to as the miles roll on???

Glad you're enjoying the ride.
I think you've discovered the joy of riding but you will encounter an 'unpleasant' suprise. The unpleaseant feeling of having an emply wallet every time you buy another chrome piece or 'upgrade'.

Empty wallet will not be the result of chrome...the wife and I took our Stars for a cruise today... $24.00 to fill two MOTORCYCLES...I damn near $&^% myself! As much as I love riding I have to tell you that was a shock to the pocket!
Regards, Ted
BTW...4400 on my new RSS and it is just as smooth as can be...even using regualr unleaded it generally behaves with just the occasional knock!

Hi Ted,
I know the feeling. I had to cancell a trip to West Virginia this week when I did the gas math and realized it would of cost me close to $160 in gas for the round trip (1600 miles). Still cheaper then a car tho, and a whole lot more fun. I got a 05 Roadie myself, have had a couple of small issues with it but nothing to really complain about. It is actually the first motorcycle I have had where I went on a 500 mile trip and the first thing I wanted to do when I got there was go for a ride and I'm in my early 50's with a bad back.

THOM, I feel your pain! I've had 3 lower back surgeries and my neck fused. I put a Utopia drivers back rest on my RS and it REALLY did the trick. Along with the large seat and the smooth physical ride of the RS I can go all day and still get off this bike and stand upright immediatly. All I need now is a set of pullbacks and it will be perfect. I'm just about done with the chrome goodies, got such a screamin' deal on the bike that I had money left over so it happened pretty quick.
My best mod was to remove the forward horn and put an old fashion chrome grill style horn in the front using the motor mount bolts. With the horn and AIS gone it looks great in the front. Next is a Cal-Custom shift linkage.
