I read the oil change in the roadstar clinic ,my question is do they make a short 17mm box end wrench, all I have are craftsman tools ,Im afraid it would take me 6 weeks and plenty of beer to try and cut that off to make it short.
Question 2-I have a 2003 R* Midnight. How do I know what type walmart filter to get for this bike,is there a conversion chart somewhere

For a list of oil filters, go here .... http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/71/116/
The list may not be complete as I have used the longer Bosch 3323 but note that it is not on the list.
I have a set of short wrenchs at home (not that it does you any good ). Check out you local stores, I'm sure you'll be able to find something.
On the other hand, if you raise the bike up on a lift then you don't need a short wrench. Be careful, some box ends are too thick and will not fit.

Just wondering what you guys are calling short. I did an oil change last week, I put the kickstand on a 4in. block to level the bike, which hasn't been lowered and used a standard length (I guess) 17 mm wrench that is 8 1/4 in. long with no problems. The problem I had was with the oil filter wrench I have. It wouldn't fit in back of the filter so I had to use a big pair of channel locks to get it off.

I wrote a short note in tech tips about my experiance with the side oil bolt. The socket I used was a Craftsman. Dulled the drill bit and it took a few minutes to drill but worked great and it now resides in my tool box. I used one of those rubber grab anything type wrenches on the filter. Like I say, I hate when someone tells me I need a "special" tool.

Sears/Craftsman makes a nice set of metric stubby wrenches. Its their Professional line of wrenches. Not cheap but less than Snap-on.
