Gas Mileage question? 6 Years ago
Is 35 Miles a Gallon pretty good for an 05 R* with 400 miles on it? Most of the miles were in town and no long stretches...I have read where they suppose to get better mileage, when you put more miles on them,is this true?? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Frank from Bama

The mpg will improve with miles. In town is usually where you get you worst mpg. Stop and go, on and off the gas really eats it up. My opinion anywho.

Normal.

It will get better as the engine 'loosens' up.

35 mpg in-town for a new bike sounds about right. Like everyone said, it will get better with age. Mine only gets high 30's when I do short in-town trips with lots of starting with the choke and then idling, and stop and go, on the gas, off the gas, etc...

On the highway at a steady 65 mph in 5th, I'll get 50+mpg.

My 05 R* Silverado has a little over 13K miles on it now. It's completely stock, and I average about 41-42 mpg.

I've gotten as high as 51 on Interstate at 65 mph.

When it was new, I averaged 35-38 mpg.

Hope that helps

99 roadie hear stock, with crappy corba drag pipes, K&N replacment filter, and ASMOIL 20w-50. on my 215 mile round trip, I AVG 49 MPG. most of it was 4th gear backroad riding, and 5th gear 75-85 mph highway speeds.
