Tranfer oil change help please 2 Years, 9 Months ago

Can anyone tell me off hand what size allen wrench fits the traansfer case oil check hole? I have to cut one to make it fit behind my pipes and knowing the size would help limit how many I have to cut. Also, once drained, can you just put a half a quart in the transfer and call it a day, or should you definetly use the check hole?
Thanks

Why bother? Drain the gear lube and replace by using a metered cylinder (measuring cup). That is how I change mine the last two times and never had an issue. Don't recall the amount to pour in, but I have measuring cup and a funnel, open the fill cap, drain the old lube, replace the drain plug, and then pour the measured amount back in, replace the cap and ride on.

See, that's what I was wondering. The book says 4.3 quarts capacity. Now, how much of that drains out? Does some remain like an engine oil change so you put less than what it holds in? Or does the transfer drain totally and you put in what the book says it holds?
