Stage One completed WOW 6 Years, 8 Months ago
Well I finally got the Stage One completed and what a difference...sounds great and seems to run smoother in the knocks department (maybe my glee though ). Decided to go right through the cones...did a small starter hole and then a tool to open up the hole to a bit over 1/2" then drilled four 1/2" holes through the baffles at 12-3-6-9 as discussed here

Thanks fellas...now I am looking forward to the Hypercharger, AIS removal and rejetting

You can check it out here:

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Glad you're happy Ted.

I stage one'd my pipes on friday, I went with 4 slots instead of 4 holes. if you look in my pipe you see 4 1/4 inch piece's of steel holding the center pipe and the rest of the flat plate is gone, I used a dremmel metal cutting bit, I think it cuts down on the air movement "foofing" sound... very nice deep rumble ~D

I agree Dave.

When I did the Stage 1, I found the large holes made exactly the same sound. I then enlongated the holes so that I had two slots and that improved the sound.

Hi Dave--

I wasn't sure how the exhaust would look with the cone totally removed...so I elected the through the cone method. Would you by any chance have a pic of your job? Also, were you able to reach the baffle with a regular dremel tool and atttachment or was a special attachment required?

TIA, Ted

I'll get a pic and send it to you PM (I hope)or if you have an e-mail you can send it to me at closed@neo.rr.com ... I was able to reach the flat plate with a regular dremmel. First I cut the inner edge of the cone and it fell out, then I cut the center tube off flush with the flat plate. I then drilled 8 holes with a 1/2 inch drill leaving 12 - 3 - 6 - 9 untouched with abour 1/4 inch of metal. I actully thought about rounding the slots, but it was much easier to make them square. I used a special bit for the dremmel to cut away most of the metal. it is for cutting hardened steel. I always called them a metal burr, but I don't think that is the right name. It took me quite a few hours to finish the job. but I did try to do it with the dremmel sanding drums - but after I exhaused my supply of them, I had to go to the store anyways... so I looked and low and behold there is a bit specially made to do what I needed... and it did so much nicer of a job. I finished it with some high temp paint ... ~Dave

Thanks Dave---I may give that a try when I have some free time...I drilled at 12-3-6-9 but the principle should be the same
