Do I need to get this from Yamaha? Or can you recommend alternate source.

You can replace your 17mm plug with a 14mm magnetic plug. The smaller wrench fits in much better, so less chance of stripping. Auto Zone has them.Do not use the plastic washer that comes with the plug.As for the crush washer, a spark plug washer is a crush washer and works fine.

Jim,
I recently went to a Yamaha/Honda dealer looking for these drain plug washers. A very helpful parts counter lady could not identify the part number for the Yamaha drain plug washer but had Honda Goldwing drain plug washers in stock that are the correct I.D. size for our drain plugs. Since I tried several Yami dealers (and online) looking for these washers without success, I bought 6 of the Honda washers. They are aluminum and cost about $0.48 each.
The problem with the auto parts store washers (I bought some at O'Reillys) is that some of them tend to be a little too large on the O.D. Check it out with a mirror if you cannot plainly see it before you tighten the drain plug agianst a new washer. I bought a cheap hand held vanity mirror from the drug store shortly after buying my bike and find that it frequently comes in very handy.
